Assassination, Right of

A method of ascension to the Imperial throne which involves the assassination of the present Emperor, along with all heirs, by the pretender to the throne. The assassin can then claim the throne, subject to the approval of the Moot. Originally established in order to remove the Emperor Cleon III (also known as Cleon the Mad) when he demonstrated homicidal tendancies. However, the murder of Empress Nicholle by Cleon IV in 475 led to a revival of the method, and ultimately to the Civil War in 606.
